What Is In His Bed Tonight?

When the boys were infants, hubs and I didn't let them sleep with anything in their cribs. The fear of them getting tangled in a blanket was just too much for us. As they got older they acquired blankets that they sleep with and sometimes uses for comfort when they are sick, mad, or sad. Little Man's is a lot like the blanket I had a little girl. It is green and white knitting that provides him the ability to makes "holes" where he puts his fingers like a bowling ball. This is the reason he has affectionately named it his "holes blanket".

The Babe started with a little square "silky". It has a baby blue silky side and the other side is some sort of fuzzy material. As he got older we offered him a full size version but he still has an affinity to the mini blanket. He doesn't suck his fingers like his brother but when he is sleepy, The Babe will get the blanket and smell the blanket. I am not sure I would suggest this feat to anyone; who knows why the blanket smells the way it does.

Little Man had a birthday recently and he really wanted a "grab nabber". You know, one of those things used to pick up trash, or help the elderly or injured handle daily activities. One of his friends has one, and of course, Rocket from Little Einsteins uses one. This was the happiest I have ever seen someone for a mere four dollars. Although I am not sure what the allure of the product is; Little Man takes this thing everywhere. At times it is useful. In the car when he drops his cup he uses it to pick it up. He helps brother get things The Babe can not reach.

It becomes annoying at bed time. Little Man grabs his blanket and his grab nabber and heads to bed. Each night for the last week he asks the same question; "can I sleep with my grab nabber?". We had some fits and crying but when I finally got myself together he agreed that it could sleep next to him on the floor. Of course, the nabber has it's own pillow and is easily accessible when he wakes.

When he enters our room to wake us he is carrying the nabber and the blanket. I know this too will pass. He could be sleeping with much worse I suppose.

That is so funny, my boy wanted a 'nabber' too. He's 15yo now and I think it's still somewhere in his closet. Maybe I can get him to use it to pick up his dirty clothes? Hmmmm.

Oh yeah, my oldest never did have a 'snuggly' she would sleep with, but the boy had an oversized stuff moose named Tony. I thought we would never get it away from him as he got older.

That is hilarious!! Now if I could handle sitting and watching "Pat Pat" with my baby i'd know Rocket has one too...if she sees one at Target i'm toast!

it's got it's own pillow too? Awww, that's luv! My BUbby alwyas slept with "Diddy", a small terry cloth monkey. So small and often played with that he'd lost it all the time. He asked at least three times a day "Mom? Have you seen Diddy?" It's still his most prized possession and he's 12. Now he's hidden him in hid daddy's closet for safe keeping from his sister. That was a cute post!

Great post! When my daughter was about 2 years old we were in Target when she fell in love with a blue corduroy bear they had sitting on the end of an aisle. I bought the bear for just under $8 and Blue Bear has lasted through the years and still occupies space on her bed. I assume she'll be taking him to college with her. My son never got attached to anything like that (although he's had his favorite baseball bat sitting next to his nightstand these days).

My youngest has no less than 10 stuffed animals on his bed, and they all get prime treatment from him.

too cute!!

Ezra has never had a "comfort object", but every night before bed he asks if he can "rub my shirt". He gives my tummy five rubs or so and then calls it good.

Oh, and my grab nabber is my 6'5 husband.

hehe.

Each of my kids have something they must sleep with:
My daughter must have her blanket which is pink and purple plaid. It was the first baby girl item I bought when she was born. I did not know I was having a girl and everything I had was neutral. She is now 10.
My oldest son has to sleep with a square pillow. He started with one off our couch until it fell apart. He now has a new one and screams if someone even looks at. He refuses to use any other pillow in the house he is now 7.
Gregory who is 5 must have Mr. Bear otherwise he will not go to sleep. Have spent many nights looking for the bear.
Sam who is 3 must have Mickey Mouse. Again I have spent many nights looking for mickey mouse so we can get some sleep.

My oldest never slept with anything but my youngest has a dog that he calls "spoiled" that he has slept with since he was 2. My MIL bought it for him and he just loves it. It is not something that he has to have each night to go to bed. The dog has held up pretty well these last 4 yrs.

I just got back from vacation and am catching up on all the blogs I missed on. I saw your comment on my cre8buzz page...this is a great post by the way. My son has something he sleeps with but it's not a necessity for him. He has a little stuffed lamb that's part stuffed animal...part blanket. He calls it Nena, and it used to be a must when he was small. My son is five now and although Nena still lays next to him, if I took her out...he wouldn't notice. No worries, your son will soon become unattached. Enjoy this phase while you can, b/c once he doesn't want his bedtime buddy...a part of you may miss that.

Oh sis you forgot to mention how you used to suck on the corner of your green, yellow and white blanky until it was black! Oh and boy did is smell funky! You loved the corner of that thing! The only way it EVER got washed was when mom could steal it away from you while you were sleeping!

Have you seen the new detergent commercial where the little girl walks in to her mom, while wrapped in her comforter and says, "mom, I can't sleep my comforter is too clean" Grin! Oh my goodness that is so you!
